Spectrastat OEL
is a complete system for preservative-free cosmetic and personal care products. It contains no biocides or typical preservatives. Instead it uses multi-functional agents that have excellent efficacy as biostatic and fungistatic agents. It is ideal for formulations where a paraben-free or preservative-free claim is needed. It can be used as an alternative to traditional preservative blends that are seen as undesirable by the consumer. It performs superbly at neutral pH, a state where many other fungistatic materials are ineffective. Spectrastat OEL is compatible with most cosmetic ingredients
INCI: Caprylhydroxamic acid (and) Caprylyl glycol (and) Ethylhexylglycerin (and) Propanediol
Typical Usage Rate 1.5% to 2%. For emulsions add to heated water phase or at cool down, Add at ambient temperatures to cold process products.
Spectrastat may be used in clear water based products such as toners however without the use of a solubiliser the product will be cloudy. Adding Zemea Propanediol (try 2% initially) or Polysorbate 20 (try 0.5% initially) should clarify the product. You may have to slightly increase the amount of propanediol or polysorbate 20 until the product is as clear as you want it.
We recommend adding 0.3% GMCY as a secndary preservative in creams and emulsions.
