is a naturally occurring polyhydroxy acid (PHA) with metal chelating, moisturizing and antioxidant activity.It is entirely water soluble
Chelating agents are ingredients that bind with metal ions or metallic compounds, preventing contamination or discoloration. Adding 0.5%- 0.75% Gluconolactone to your formulations can boost the performance of your preservative systems. Bear in mind that adding it will lower the pH (slightly more acidic) of your finished product
At higher levels Gluconolactone not only performs as a chelating agent but will also boost skin moisturisation by binding to water molecules. It is also an anti-oxidant and can help protect the skin from the harmful effects of free radical by eliminating them.
Appearance: White crystalline powder
Usage rate: 0.5% to 5%. Recommended 0.5% – 0.75% if used solely as a chelating agent. Higher if the moisturising and /or anti-oxidant properties are required.
Add to the heated water phase for creams and lotions or add to warm water first for cold process formulations
